Purpose

This document collects into one place all the individual platform. and certification notes for Database on Linux x86-64 that were in the older My Oracle Support certification system. This document can be used as a standalone reference and index to important details about the certification of all active Database releases on the Linux x86-64 platform. In addition, all individual certifications will refer to this note so there is a single consistent source of certification details.

This document contains general information pertaining to all releases of the Oracle Database, and information about individual releases

Platform. Information

Processor Chip Information:

  • Linux x86-64, support on AMD64/EM64T and Intel Processor Chips that adhere to the x86-64 architecture with supported Linux releases.
  • Running 32-bit Linux x86 Oracle Database server on Linux x86-64 AMD64/EM64T (64-bit OS) is not supported .
  • 32-bit Client software:
    • The only release of 32-bit RDBMS Client software that will properly install on an x86_64 Linux OS system is 11.2.
    • 32-bit client software from any earlier Oracle Database release (9.2, 10.1, 10.2 or 11.1) is NOT supported and will NOT install on any x86_64 Linux OS system
    • Oracle 32-bit running on AMD64/EM64T with a 32-bit OS is supported, refer to platform. Linux x86 for more information on product availability.

OS Information:

  • Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel information:

Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for Linux is available for x86-64 platforms. It is based on a recent stable mainline Linux kernel, and also includes optimizations developed in collaboration with Oracle Database, Oracle middleware, and Oracle hardware engineering teams to ensure stability and optimal performance for the most demanding enterprise workloads. New releases of Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel occur approximately every 18 months. When choosing Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, please be aware of its support schedule and grace periods, documented here: http://linux.oracle.com/supported.html
