Goal

To provide a step-by-step to setup DataGuard using Enterprise Manager GridControl.

Solution

Here are the step by step:

1- Logon to the GridControl.

2- Click on the Targets tab to show a list of hosts.

3- Click on the Target where the Primary database resides.

4- Click on the Targets tab under the host section.

5- Click on the Primary database.

6- Click on the Maintenance Tab under the Database Instance section.

7- Click on the Data Guard Setup and Manage link under the High Availability section.

8- Logon as sys and connect as sysdba.

9- Click on the Add Standby Database link.

10- Select Create a new physical standby database and click continue.

11- Select Perform. a live backup of the primary database and click next.

12- Specify a backup location under Backup Files Directory and enter the host credentials for the Primary host under Primary Host Credentials.

Note: You may get a warning that the specified location does not exist.

 

13- Under Standby Database specify the Instance name.
Under Standby Host Credentials enter the username and password.
Under Standby Database Location specify the host and confirm the correct Oracle version.


14- Under Standby Host Backup File Access specify a location for the backup files.
Select the Keep file names and locations the same as the primary database and click customize.


15- Customize as needed. Rename the redo logs to an alternate name to avoid hitting a bug and click OK.

Note: You may get a warning that the specified location does not exist.


 

16- Back on the Add Standby Database: File Locations screen click next.

Note:You may get a warning that the specified location does not exist.

 


17- Under Add Standby Database: Configuration specify the following:
Database Unique Name
Target Name
Standby Archive Location
Adjust the Flash Recovery Area Size as needed. Click next.

Note: You may get a warning that the specified location does not exist.

 


18- Review the information and confirm everything is set correctly. Click Finish.
